Becoming the keeper of a wonderful Jazz record collection. Live @ FilmfestMünchen. I am feeling like a keeper of a holy grail: our family‘s outstanding jazz record collection is now with me in Berlin. Perfectly archived with lots of treasures, that I grew up with ?… Bill Oscar Ella Ron & lots of Charlies … Fans and friends will be welcome asap, as I am thinking about opening the collection to an interested public, arranged by appointments.

July is a kind of „off-day“ for me, which means preparing piano recordings for a new Solo CD and refilling the batteries on a small greek island. But before I close the studio for two weeks, I am invited to a roundtable talk on „music & film“ during the Filmfest Munich. I will play my main themes from Doris Dörrie’s film Grüsse aus Fukushima, accompanied by wonderful cellist Shoko Matsuyama. The whole talk including the live music is online on BR-Klassik.

About the event: „Der Film sagt, was ist und die Musik, wie es ist“, lautet eine cineastische Faustregel. Aber stimmt das? Sind Film und Musik wirklich ein untrennbares Gesamtkunstwerk? Und wenn dem so ist, sind Filmkomponistinnen und -komponisten dann nur Dienstleister? Kann man gleichzeitig künstlerisch frei sein, sogenannte E-Musik schreiben und vermarktbare Soundtracks? Darüber diskutieren der Regisseur, Musiker und Blogger Dietrich Brüggemann, die Musikerin und Komponistin Ulrike Haage und der Komponist und emeritierte Filmmusikprofessor Enjott Schneider. Die Veranstaltung wird im Rahmen der Sendereihe „Thema Musik Live“ live auf BR-KLASSIK übertragen.
